The subject of Indian textiles is far more extensive than can be discussed here. Because cotton is not grown in the desert area of Rajasthan, the main textile techniques here consist of decorations that are superimposed on ready made cloth. Rajasthan is famous for block printing, tie and dye work, and embroidery.
In this desert region, bold colors are presented in a spectrum of designs ranging from simple geometric to floral and animal motifs. Throughout India, red is the color of brides and is considered an auspicious color. Red is often combined with yellow which is the color of rebirth.
