Saheli-A Cross Cultural Solutions Insight India Program

I was looking for a way to go to India with a group but not on a tour. I wanted to get off the beaten track and see more than just the tourist spots. Fortunately, I found Cross Cultural Solutions' Insight India Saheli Tour. In a letter dated September 1, 2000, the Program Coordinator for Cross Cultural Solutions wrote the following about the Saheli Program:

Saheli, which means "girlfriend" in Hindi, is not a typical tour. It diverges far from the tourist path and offers the unique opportunity to meet and interact with local women from all walks of life, to gain insight into their lives and learn about some of the achievements and challenges they face in contemporary and traditional India.
Saheli participants visit with villagers and grass roots leaders of social service organizations to explore various issues, including marriage, literacy, religion, Indian history, music and dance.
