Fatehpur Sikri

.Forty kilometers west of Agra, Fatehpur Sikri is a deserted Mughal city occupied between 1571 and 1585. It was built by Emperor Akbar, but was abandoned 14 years later. Some say that it was abandoned because of lack of water at the site. However, other historians state that Akbar left the city to return to the battle field to consolidate the northwest borders of his empire. Because Fatehpur Sikri was built of native sandstone, it has survived the ravages of weather and thus looks almost new.
