.The doorway and columns of the inner sanctum of the Harihara Temple are an example of ancient Indian architectural techniques. The principles of arched construction did not enter India until the Islamic conquests. Before then, square pillars supported successive layers of horizontal corbels. These layers are gradually decreased creating the curved lines of the roof. Here the architectural lines are softened by the use of intricate sculptures.
