Jagori's vision is to be an autonomous resource center organically linked to the women's movement and committed to the spread of feminist ideology to create a just society for women and other marginalized groups. At its simplest, Jagori is a documentation and resource centre on women-related issues. At its most intricate, it is where feminist theory meets practice.
DOCUMENTATION AND RESOURCE CENTER
The resource center has an extensive collection of books, research studies, magazines, journals, official documents, films, documentaries, video/audio tapes, posters, booklets, photographs, pamphlets, articles and clippings on such issues as violence against women, sexuality, legal rights, empowerment, creativity, single women, food security and so forth.
Jagori distributes material to grassroot activists working with over 150 groups in the northern belt of India, across South Asia and worldwide. Through the use of songs, films, street theatre, photography and other media, they communicate beyond the literacy barrier to reach as many women as they can.
TRAINING
Jagori provides training for grassroots-level activists, women's organizations and NGOs, college students, and others.
Some of the training topics include: feminist ideologies, gender concepts, health-literacy, population policies, and violence. Jagori also trains midwives and upgrades their existing skills.
CAMPAIGNS
In response to events, Jagori will take to the streets with protests, rallies, sit-ins and marches. On occasion, events have activated long-term, sustained campaigns requiring in-depth planning, strategizing and lobbying.
Issues Jagori has consistently campaigned on include: sexual, physical and mental violence, communalism, reproductive health rights, nuclearization, peace, food security, freedom of expression and the rights of girls, single women, widows and dalits.
COMMUNITY LINKS
Jagori actively works with women in different community groups. They consolidate their experiences by providing platforms for sharing and enhancing feminist consciousness. Community links are an essential factor in enabling Jagori to raise issues, activate campaigns, plan training, and share experiences, problems and strategies.
