RURAL WOMAN
On The Road to Dundlod

This photograph was taken on the road between Delhi and Dundlod when we made an unscheduled rest stop in a rural village. Several women were walking along the road carrying various heavy items such as wood and farm goods.

Following are some statistics regarding women in India taken from material provided to us during the Program:
1. Women work longer hours and their work is more arduous than men's.
2. Women's contribution to agriculture when measured in terms of the number of tasks performed and time spend, is greater than men's.
3. India's maternal mortality rates in rural areas are among the highest in the world.
